January 2022 Newsletter
Resident Website is now Live!
A special thank you goes out to one of our very own, Shannon Beagin, for her tireless work on building a community website for our residents-owners and tenants alike! You can copy paste this link in to your URL and don’t forget to save it for ease of access in the future. Please check it out and let us know your thoughts!

Have you checked your slider and window tracks?
It’s important to periodically clean the tracks on your slider doors and windows. They’re designed with weep holes to allow water to escape. With the proximity to the beach and winds, it’s very easy for the weep holes to get clogged and when that happens, water has nowhere to go but in your unit or the unit below. Over time, this can also cause rot to the wood trim below it. Before the next rains come, please take a moment to check each of them for cleanliness. You and your neighbors will be glad you did.
2022 Pool Passes Available
The pool passes for 2022 are ready for pick up. Because I’m not familiar with a lot of faces yet, please bring either your photo ID or your 2021 pool pass with you.
We need photos!!
We have two photo clipboards in the office that sure could use some filling up-the more the merrier because I will be swapping them out. If you have a photo of the community or the beach you’d like to share (no “personal” photos please), bring it by and I will post them. Please be sure to write your name and unit number on the back if you’d like it returned.
Get ready for some noise
We’ve been given a tentative start date of January 19 for the long awaited replacement of the perimeter fence and gates. The entire project should take about eight to twelve weeks weather permitting. Especially for those units that face Ventura and Surfside Drive, it will be noisy. The goal is for this job to be completed expeditiously but please do not disrupt their progress. If you have a concern, please reach out to me. Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated!
Change is Coming!
One goal for 2022 is to review and update the rules and regulations to meet the current needs of the community. While we’ve revised sections here and there, it’s been some time since changes have been made to the entire booklet. Once we publish the draft rules, please make sure your voice is heard by reviewing and providing feedback.
Holiday Decorations!
Thanks to each of you who participated in decorating for the holidays. My grandson was visiting from out of town and really loved our stroll through the community! The winning participant he drew was…...398! Please stop by the office soon for your prize :) As a gentle reminder, all exterior decorations need to be removed no later than January 15th.
Community Living in a Snapshot
While the Board of Directors will be working on updating the rules to better fit the needs of the community, below are a few common courtesy issues and/or safety issues that have come up recently:
For obvious safety reasons, the vehicular exit gate is to be used ONLY as an exit gate! Accosting drivers who are exiting to allow access is dangerous and for a number of reasons. Further, tampering with the is strictly prohibited. All these WILL result in fines because we take safety very seriously!
Please do not park in reserved spaces that aren’t assigned to your unit. Whether your neighbor is a “weekender” or “out of town”, without their express permission to park there, your vehicle CAN be towed and it will be at your expense.
In most cases, its owner responsibility to complete minor plumbing repairs. If your shutoff under the fixture is not working properly and you need to shut off the main, it will affect your neighbors. Please make sure you notify everyone directly next to/above/below you at least 24 hours in advance for non-emergency repairs!
Doing some interior remodeling? Remember it is your responsibility to make sure the contractor cleans up any mess they make outside your front door.
Bike rack clean up-It appears some of the bikes stored in the racks may left behind by previous residents. If you’ve stored one and would like to keep it there, please send me a photo with the location of the rack it’s in no later than January 31. Any “unclaimed” bikes will be removed and donated.
A note from the Community Manager
Happy New Year!! I hope each of you had as amazing of a holiday as I did. My entire family was together for the first time in eight very long years. I’m so thankful for all the noise and mayhem it created in our home but it’s sure nice to get the quiet back! Renovations on the office are complete so I’m back on site full time now. Thanks to Tino, Luis, and Jesse for all their hard work to make it as lovely as the rest of the clubhouse. Additionally, thanks to each of you for your patience and understanding while I was working remotely. I’m still settling back in but love what’s been done and hope you do as well.
I only received a handful of the resident information forms back during the holidays. In retrospect, the request was poor timing on my part. That being said, as the new manager it’s important I verify the information I have is accurate so now that the holidays have passed, please take a moment to complete and return the forms.
In the midst of COVID cases being on the rise again, health and safety of our team members and residents is of utmost importance. Surfside 1 team members are adhering to the mask mandate and ask that you do as well regardless of your vaccination and/or booster status . If maintenance needs to enter your unit for any reason, please make sure you wear one even though it’s not a “public” space. If you need to come to the office for any reason, wearing a mask is required. Please don’t make it uncomfortable for any of us.
Owners, please mark your calendar now for the first meeting of 2022 on January 24th. We have a lot of work to do and a full agenda but we certainly appreciate those of you who take the time out to attend. We will still host the meetings via Zoom for the foreseeable future. More information to follow in the coming weeks. Hope to “see” you there!
Warm Regards, Dawn Cooper
