OFFICE CLOSED FOR VACATION MAY 20-MAY 24TH
OFFICE OPEN THIS SAT. 5/4 FROM 9-11 AM-PLEASE PICK UP YOUR REQUIRED POOL PASS
The 2019 pool passes have been available for pickup since February but there are still many pool passes in the office. As of May 4th, the 2019 pool passes are required to be with you if you are in the pool area as the 2018 pool passes will no longer be valid. You will be asked to leave the pool area if you have no pool pass or only the pink 2018 pool pass. As always, one pool pass will be issued per condo. If you lose your pass, replacement passes are $5 each. And please remember that our Security company staff or any HOA staff or Security Committee member can ask to see your pool pass if you are in the pool area so please keep it out and convenient to show. Pool hours are 8am- 10pm and quiet hours in the pool area are 8pm-10pm so that residents around the pools can have a peaceful evening in their homes.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS COMING TO SS1
The Board is pleased to announce we have been awarded a significant grant from Southern California Edison to install electric vehicle charging stations at our complex. We will have a total of ten stations. Two will be ADA compliant and the other eight standard charging stations. The two ADA stations will be located close to the mail boxes and the Clubhouse. The closest ADA spot will accommodate vans. The other eight stations will be located at the midpoint of the complex along the back wall. The City of Port Hueneme zoning requirements as well as other regulatory agency statutes dictated the location of the stations: see attached map for lay out.
Use of the charging stations will not be free. Any use of them will be subject to a charge. It is expected that those charges will pay for the stations over the next few years. The rate established will differ. Our registered owners and tenants will pay a market rate while any non-registered users or visitors will pay a higher rate. ChargePoint, an EV industry leader, has been selected to help administrate our system.
Parking regulations are currently being formulated by the HOA Board. Construction will begin sometime in June; notification will be sent out as soon as there is a firm date.
APPROVED POOL RULE CHANGE: APRIL 29, 2019
15-DAY NOTICE OF APPROVED RULE: Surfside Association pool gate card and annual pool pass are required to enter pool areas and will be used to identify residents. Entering the pool areas at any time in any manner other than with the assigned pool card will result in an immediate $100 fine.
WELCOME TO OUR NEW MAINTENANCE STAFF EMPLOYEE, TINO!
As of April 15th, we have a new full-time maintenance staff person on-site, Valentin Zavala, and he goes by the name of “Tino”. He comes with many years of experience in the maintenance field, including having additional experience in landscaping, plumbing, electrical and small construction type work; which has already proven to be a huge help at SS1. Please introduce yourself if you see him out on the property and give him a warm welcome to our beautiful location with so many friendly residents. And as always, if you see maintenance issues on the property that need to be addressed, please bring them to the attention of the office so that I can let Tino or Jesse know to take care of these things. Tino is here Monday-Friday and Jesse works on Tuesdays with an occasional extra day to help out, which is so appreciated by all!
SAVE THE DATE FOR A REALLY FUN COMMUNITY EVENT: JULY 14, 2019 – 1-4 PM.
Save the date for the “Hello Summer! Get to Know Your Neighbor Potluck”! More details to come but if you are interested in helping, please show up for the next scheduled planning meeting in the clubhouse on Thursday, May 16th at 3 PM. There are 4 or 5 residents in the planning process so far but the more the merrier to make this an even better event. What a fun event this should be!
BIKES ARE BEING STOLEN – PROTECT YOUR BIKES AND VALUABLES!
It doesn’t happen very often here but when it does, it seems to be a rash of thefts at one time and we’ve had at least 4 bikes reported stolen from the bike racks in the past couple of weeks. The cables are cut and the bikes disappear, typically with being thrown over the perimeter fence and the thief jumping over after it to run away with the bike. There are no cameras in the areas of the bike racks, plus it’s typically someone who doesn’t live here that nobody would recognize anyway, so please do not expect the surveillance cameras to help in these instances. The best way to make sure this doesn’t happen to you is to keep your bike in your condo, as has been mentioned in many previous newsletters. The same goes for any valuables in your vehicles. It’s best to keep them in your condo at all times but if you do have valuables in your car, at least keep them locked up in the trunk and always keep your vehicle doors locked and no valuables ever in the back of your pick-up. Our security company occasionally sees vehicles with their windows rolled down and the doors unlocked and this is just inviting someone to take something, even if it’s just loose change in the console. One of our owners recently noticed two people very early on Easter morning trying to get into cars and take bikes so he scared them off but if you ever see this happen, please call 911 immediately so the police can try to catch them while they are in the act. But in the meantime, do everything you can to NOT become a victim of theft.
PATIO AND BALCONY RULE REMINDERS
I know this is a repeat article but there are lots of new tenants and owners moving in, so it’s always a good reminder. ☺ Now that spring is upon us, here are just a few reminders for your patios and balconies. Only professional outdoor patio furniture is allowed so please do not use your indoor chairs, tables, etc. unless it’s just for the time you plan to be on your patio/balcony. If you use a patio umbrella, please bring it inside (or lay it down on the patio) once you are done using it, along with ice chests, folding chairs, towels, etc. You can store up to two surfboards but they must be laying down across the balcony so as not to block the view of your neighbors. Bicycles are not allowed on patios/balconies at any time. All planters must be kept on risers so that they are not sitting directly on the wood deck. No brooms, mops, cleaning supplies, fertilizer, etc. can be stored there either. Basically, if it’s not listed as an “approved” item, it is not allowed.
Please refer to the “Balcony Rules” in your Rules and Regs so that you are aware of ALL of the rules for the balconies and patios. Also it’s imperative that all owners refer to the BALCONY MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS as it is your responsibility to maintain your own balcony deck and report any concerns with your balcony railings to the office.
VOICES CARRY MORE THAN YOU KNOW – PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF NEIGHBORS
Now that you are spending more time outside, it’s important to remember how easily voices carry outside. If you need to make a phone call on your cell phone, try to do so from inside your condo rather than sitting on your balcony or in the pool area talking loudly. Besides this not being a very private conversation for you,, it’s very disturbing to neighbors to have to listen to your lengthy conversation when they’d rather hear the ocean waves. The same with listening to your music; you are the only one who should be able to hear and enjoy your music, your neighbors appreciate your keeping the sound down. And voices carry immensely while in the pool and/or jacuzzi’s so please try to keep voices down while visiting in these areas. If you have a problem with any of these issues please try to address it with your neighbor first but if you aren’t comfortable with that, please let the office know so it can be addressed. Everyone is entitled to the peaceful enjoyment of their condo.
